The Circumcision (compact version)

In Genesis 17:12 God told Abraham to circumcise his male children and his whole house on the eighth day. The blood clotting agent Prothrombin reaches 100% on day seven, but it jumps to 110% on day eight, and drops back to 100% after that. Many would argue that this could have been discovered by observations over time, but I'd like for us to examine what that would truly entail. And it couldn't even be a good guess, as the number 7 is sacred as it symbolizes perfection to the Jews, so they would no doubt have gone with day seven if it were a guess.

First of all, 100% prothrombin for me might be 100 units, while 100% for you might be only 80 units, meaning that my wound would clot faster than yours on any given day. So, if the Hebrews were to circumcise one boy on the fourth day after he was born, and another boy on the fifth day after he was born, their clotting speeds would look similar. This means they would need to cut the same baby (say on the arm perhaps), once a day, for at least nine days, in order to come to the knowledge that the eighth day is the best.

Now let's examine exactly how the procedure would need to look, in order for them to catch that small 10% difference in clotting time. Please remember just how small that difference is. As I said, they would need to cut the same baby once a day for at least nine days. They would also need to leave the wound unbound, in order to know exactly when the wound stopped bleeding. They would also need to have a counting system that was perfectly accurate in order to count the time it took to clot. It would seem that counting seconds for themselves was the most probable way. A sun dial doesn't have seconds on it to my knowledge, and it would also require day time circumcisions, while they were captive in Egypt. Can you count seconds the exact same length each time you count, and do it the same on nine different days? Now, if you are okay with believing that these primitive Hebrews were counting on their fingers, while their new born babies bled, just so that they could boast that they found the best day to chop off their manhood, then you also have to convince yourself that their counting was so precise that the small difference of 10% was not missed. You would also need them to be able to see exactly when the blood stopped coming out, in an already bloody spot.

The point is that the information about circumcision had to be God breathed. If you want to believe that it was discovered over time, thereby rejecting God in a way that is not due to scientific reason, then you need to show scientifically how this could have been accomplished in a natural way by primitive Hebrews. "And My Covenant shall be in your flesh, for an everlasting covenant."
