The sins of Canaan

When slamming the Word of God, many people will say things like, "That is a barbaric god, and you follow a dark and barbaric religion!" This is due to God's decree to Israel to eliminate the inhabitants of the land of Canaan, commonly referred to today as Palestine. People will commonly compare this to radical Islamic terrorism and say that we are no different. Of course, nothing could be further from the truth. There is something called the law of abrogation, which means that when the Quran contradicts itself, which it does in several places, then you are to take the more recent verse for doctrine. (“No change can there be in the words of A****.” Sura 10:64. “There is none that can alter the words of A**** ” Sura 6:34) Many Muslims are quick to point out early verses concerning peaceful commands concerning the treatment of Christians and Jews from the Quran, but they fail to show that, by the law of abrogation, those old verses are thrown out, and the Quran abiding Muslim is commanded to convert or kill, not to make peace. The following is quoted from ‘Dictionary of Islam” pg 520, and is acknowledged by all commentators to be an accurate abrogation Quote ”The much discussed "verses of the sword": "....fight and slay the pagans wherever ye find them and seize them, beleaguer them and lie in wait for them in every stratagem (or war)." (Sura 9:5) and "....when you meet the unbelievers (in fight) cut off their necks..." (Sura 47:4) are "said to have cancelled no less than 124 verses which enjoined toleration and patience." (A. Guillaume). End Quote” Webster’s describes stratagem as a ruse or trickery designed to gain an end. This implies hidden, or secret tactics.

In this study however, we will be taking a look at the Biblical record of the inhabitants of the land of Canaan, from God's perspective.

Before we begin the main study, I'd like to suggest that you do some searching for "the name Palestine" or "history of the name Palestine", and you'll find out that the word Palestine comes from the name Philistine, who were but one of many inhabitants of the land of Canaan. It is important to note that the words Palestine, and Palestina do appear in the KJV, but the Hebrew word that they are translated from, is Philistine, which is a single group of people, and not a name for the whole land. There were many nations in the land of Canaan, and the Philistines were simply one of these. It would be like future archeologists calling all of America by the name New Jersey, simply because a single piece of land in the archeological record for the US was called New Jersey.

Now let us move on to the real study. The sins of the inhabitants of Canaan are recorded in Lev 18:1-25, 20:1-23, & Deut 18:9-14. I wouldn’t be surprised if there are other lists somewhere, but these are just the ones that I personally know about. In all of these passages, God gives a list of “Thou shalt not” commandments, and follows them by saying, “for the nations which I shall cast out before you have done all of these things.” In Lev 18:25, God goes so far as to say that, the land itself is defiled, and that the land itself “vomiteth out her inhabitants”.

One more pre-study note: Many of these sins that we will look at, call for the partakers to perish. However, the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, is that He has perished in your place, and thereby purchased your salvation with His Blood (Mt 26:28), you need only to accept it by believing in Him & His finished Work, & repenting of your sins, meaning that you completely change your direction, repentance is not just to ask forgiveness, though that is a part of it. So, if you have been guilty of any of the sins that we will cover, DO NOT feel like all is lost. All is indeed gained, by faith in Christ Jesus. The only thing that you’ll lose is the stain of sin.

It is important to note that the term, “uncover a man’s nakedness”, means to have relations with his wife, see Lev 18:14, 20:20-21. To uncover a woman’s nakedness however, is to have relations with her. These people practiced (1) relations with ones own gender: Lev 18:22, 20:13 (Please do not turn this into a pro, OR anti gay discussion. Sin is sin, and we all have sinned, Ro 3:23, Ja 2:10, I Jo 1:8-10.), (2) adultery: Lev 18:20, 20:10, (3) relations with animals: Lev 18:23, 20:15-16, (4) relations with ones own mother: Lev 18:7, (5) relations with fathers wife (step mother): Lev 18:8, 20:11, (6) relations with daughter in law: Lev 18:15, 20:12, (7) relations with grand children: Lev 18:10, (8) relations with a woman and her mother: Lev 18:17, 20:14, (9) relations with a woman and her sister: Lev 18:18, (10) relations with ones own sister: Lev 18:9, 20:17, (11) relations with ones own half sister: Lev 18:11, (12) relations with a woman during menstration: Lev 18:19, 20:18, (13) relations with blood related aunts: Lev 18:12-13, 20:19, (14) relations with “married in” aunts: Lev 18:14, 20:20, (15) relations with ones own sister in law: Lev 18:16, 20:21.

What I’m about to say now will be a hard lesson for some, but it needs to be said. I am going to list the occultic sins of these nations. Fans of Harry Potter will have to take special notice of how God views wizardry, and witchcraft. There’s simply no way around this. Just because you view some thing as “simply a fun fantasy” doesn’t mean that there aren’t kids out there who are enticed by the power that witchcraft offers. What are you promoting? Besides, God never says, you can come close to these things, as long as you don’t take part in them. He says, they shall not be named among you.

First I must point out that, though the Bible does mention many false gods by name, we are also commanded in Ex 23:13 to never let those names be heard out of our mouths. So, if you are reading out loud, be sure and skip those names. The inhabitants of Canaan (16) sacrificed their children by fire, to the false god M*****: Lev 18:21, 20: 2-6, Deut 18:10, (17) they had familiar spirits, which is likened to whordom by God, (this is when a demon parades as a dead family member, through a spirit medium) Lev 20:6, Duet 18:11, (18) they practiced wizardry which is also called whordom: Lev 20:6, Duet 18:11, (19) necromancy (this is not actually the raising of the dead as most people believe, I'm not totally sure what it is though): Duet 18:11, (see also Lev 20:27), (20) they cursed their parents: Lev 20:9, (21) they used divination (fortune telling, i.e. crystal ball reading, tarot card reading, palm reading, etc): Deut 18:10, (22) they were observers of times (astrology): Deut 18:10, (23) they were enchanters (hypnotism): Deut 18:10, (24) witches: Duet 18:10, (25) charmers (this involves using sensual means to entice someone, witches do this a lot): Duet 18:11.

Enemies of the our God love to paint the inhabitants of Canaan as peaceful family oriented farmers, who just wanted to live their lives. I’ve even seen a program on the History channel that showed a dirt covered, pitiful looking little girl holding her mothers hand, and along comes the violent and bloody Jews to slay the innocent. Don’t be fooled by this nonsense. The Biblical record paints a very different picture. The inhabitants of Canaan practiced sexual immorality that would make the most liberal minded person to be ashamed (relations with mothers, sisters, daughters, and grand daughters). They sacrificed their children to false gods, by fire. In fact, they had a large statue of a man with a bulls head, made of gold, with it’s arms outstretched, to which arms they tied their children, and then they built a fire around it. Even modern day liberals would be offended in the very pits of their bosoms, by the deeds of these Canaanites. But remember, Christ paid it all on the cross. Repent and be baptized for the remission of sins, and believe.

Punishment for refusing the sacrifice of the Son of God is eternal II Th 1:8-9, Rev 14:11. The lake of fire was made for the devil and his angels, not for us, Mt 25:41, God takes no pleasure in the destruction of the wicked Ezekiel 33:11, and He is not willing that any man should inherit the lake of fire, but that all should come to repentance, II Pt 3:8-9. Sin must be punished, and the wages of sin is death Ro 6:23, but the Blood of Christ is the only thing that can wash away that sin, so that we may live, and not die, Ro 6:23, 10:9. No one can enter in to the presence of the Holy Father except through Christ, John 14:6.

Dear Christian, the occult is an opperation just like the mafia. once you get in so far, you can't get out without a literal contract being put out on your life. God warns of these things because they are all accompanied by evil spirits. Witches, and most demonically influenced musical artists actually say incantations to demand that a spirit phyisically accompany their works. When you own or partake in their works, i.e. tarot, astrology, witchcraft, psycic readings, ouiji, music, movies, games etc, you are allowing those spirits to reside around you and in you. If you have dabbled with any of these things, you may seriously be in need of casting out demons. The supernatural aspect of the occult is very real, but it is no real power. Keep in mind, I am not saying that all music, movies, games etc are accompanied by demons, but many are, as they are the product of an occult factory of evil spirits, and satanic agendas, designed with the intent of having you unknowingly invite evil spirits into your house, and into your life.

To anyone who is not a Christian, but who dabbles in, or is seriously involved in these activities, ask yourself why you are so tormented when you are alone. That is because the only time you "recieve power" is when that power can be influenced to draw others into occult practice, or when that power is used to further satans agenda in the earth. Satan has no power except through human participation. Period. When there is no one around to be influenced, they turn their teeth and talons on you, because their only goal is to draw as many people into their fate as they can. They don't care about you, they only care about enchanting you with the desires of your heart, so that they can lord your fallen state over the Lord who shed His Blood to die for you that you might be saved from their fate. Which Blood is the only thing powerful enough to make you reborn. Their fate IS sealed. If you are into true satanism, then you will know that these spirits will tell you that satan is the true god, and that he will win, because his army is so great. Read the book of Revelation, their fate is sealed. Prophesied almost 2,000 years ago in Rev 20:10. The True God wants you free. You were made in His Image, and given the free gift of Salvation through Grace, if you will recieve it. If not, you will share your masters fate. But not because God doesn't love you. Because you have rejected the death of His Son as punishment for your sins, as if it was for nothing. Think of the person in this life who means more to you than anyone, or anything else. If that person were to sacrifice themselves that I might live, and I were to then say to you, "I didn't need their help!" or "They died for nothing!" how would you feel? Now imagine God, who made mankind in His image, and who sent His Son to die for a world of His very enemies, that they might be cleansed, and recieve eternal life. How do you expect to be recieved having rejected and scoffed at the Sacrifice of His Son?
